Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Mar 11, 2013 10:49 am Hiyya- We have an 1960's house which is being renovated in bits. We have a 'classy' old style faux wood panellig on an exterior wall of our living room. The panels have come out a lil bit in 2-3 places. Given we are not experts, what would be the best way to cover up/normalise this wall to blend it with the cream coloured adjacent walls? do we paint over or do we need to fill up the grooves? do we use nails to fix the ones that are loose or just nail all the panels? do we do wallpaper? thx all. Remove it, make the walls good then paint or wallpaper Arfur Re: Ugly faux wood panel- reno 4Mar 12, 2013 11:46 am Is there a solid (gyprock?) wall behind it or is this the only wall covering? If you need to remove the panelling and replace with gyprock (which is thicker than panelling), then you need to think about your cornice. Painting would be cheapest and easiest option, if you don't like the finish, then you go to option B. I wouldn't fill the gaps. Have you thought about some large artwork? Re: Ugly faux wood panel- reno 5Mar 12, 2013 7:38 pm Cut out the cornice carefully, plasterboard over the top of the crappy timber panelling, replace cornice, paint. We had the same problem in our last house - a 70's museum piece with some horrible timber panelling feature walls - and that's what we did. Didn't even bother ripping out the panelling, just plastered over it. Came up great. Completed a knock down and rebuild in northern Melbourne. Handover completed 27/09/2013 and now moved in. at most it will have a short lintel which could be moved up just below the ceiling or even above. Above means you need to patch the cornice and might need to deal with… 2 61368 We are tossing up between a Jarrahdale radiant wood fire (the Pioneer) and a convection wood fire (Innovator or Countryman) but cannot decide on which type of wood fire is… 0 5249 yeah i couldnt picture it issue either, but i could clearly picture what they were doing wrong haha 2 5294 |
