Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 17, 2013 9:17 am Hi I am new to the forum and in need of advice! We are wanting to give out kitchen just a facelift....paint the timber doors and replace the tiled benchtop with stone. There is nothing wrong with the existing splashback so we were looking to keep it. The problem...currently the bench is 33mm thick with 10mm of tile on top....so in total 43mm thick. The stone benchtop is 20mm thick. So we will have a 23mm gap between the stone and the existing splashback. What options do we have? Do we have to Remove tiles and do whole new splash back? (Least favourable option) Can we build under supports for the stone so it sits higher? Will this look weird on the face of the cabinets? Can you but stone up against tiles? Could we leave the existing benchtop, remove the tiles and cut the edges back and lay the stone on top? Still thinking this would make the edges look weird? I would love to attach a photo but not sure how to do this? ANY advice would be most helpful. If we do need to remove tiles and retile how long does it take to remove....we have approx 4sq meters of splashback. Re: Kitchen Reno please HELP! 2Feb 17, 2013 10:31 am Who ever you get to quote on your new bench tops would be the best to advise you, but as its only a mere 4m2 of tiles I think they will say retile. Depending on what the tiles are fixed to and how easily they come off, you may have to replace the tile backing (wall lining) as well Arfur Hello It is good to have a planned bathroom reno to suit your budget and design, living for 10 years I think you need a bathtub 4 10372 Bought in Nov 21 at the height of the market (classic).
