Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Dec 28, 2012 3:21 pm Hi all, The old bridge beams that have been installed in my new house are in need of a clean... but I must admit I'm not sure what to do. I tried scrubbing them with a wire brush... removed a lot of dirt, but will take me 'till next Christmas to do them all (!). Is a wipe over with a sponge and then a good sealing coat enough? What do other folks do with their recycled beams? Wouldnt have any idea who does it here. Arfur Re: Cleaning up old rafter beams... any ideas? 3Dec 30, 2012 9:15 am As above but it depends mostly on what the dirt is. If it is just that - dirt, then a belt sand and lots of hand sanding should remove 99% of it. If the beams have oil in them then you may not get them back to pristine condition. Personally I'd love them to look a bit pre-loved anyway. Stewie THanks , l got a licensed building inspector to look at the rust, he said its just surface rust and it would take many years to become a problem because the beams are so… 22 28194 if l cannot get a sandblaster would a sander with sandpaper be better then a wire brush 4 7419 |
