Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Dec 04, 2012 9:23 pm Hi all, Background - 1905 double brick home with narrow French doors with very nice that lead into each of the front bedrooms from the front verandah. Lintels are rusted above both so was looking at a couple of options, 1) when replacing the lintels, widen the space and put in larger French doors or possibly a window 2) when replacing the lintels, widen the space and enclose each side with a nice big bay window. I appreciate there is likely to be significant cost involved but both the lintels are pretty old and very rusted so if we're going to do it, we would like to have something we really want and are going to live with for a while. I was thinking we would be able to brace the lintel on either side with steel if needed and we would look to build a sun seat into the space at the bottom of each window. That would hide any other bracing that might be needed on the floor. My questions are, 1) Anyone have any thoughts about sealing above the window to the house? 2) Anyone have any thoughts about the brickwork below the window?
