Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Oct 24, 2012 5:12 pm Hi there ... I have a very open plan B&T home. When I built the home, I was on a strict budget and couldn't afford to get doors or door frames built in at the time. I'd really love to add a few doors to my hallways, and also to close off my laundry - but the openings open all the way to the ceiling. Any ideas on how I deal with this? I was toying with the idea of getting wooden frames, with transom(?) above - but as all the other door frames in the house are aluminium - perhaps this would look silly. Anyway, I'd love to hear how others have dealt with this problem!! Re: Installing Doors and Door Frames 2Oct 26, 2012 2:14 pm Its pretty straight forward. Instead of using a door jamb with a head you need to use one without a head. Im assuming if your exisiting door openings in your home are to the ceiling you will need to order special size doors to accomodate that size. The top of your door should run flush with your ceiling (of course there will be a gap to allow the door to open and close) Re: Installing Doors and Door Frames 3Oct 26, 2012 5:12 pm Another option is to put a noggin in at the appropriate height, then fit a standard door and jamb in whatever width you want to fit. Simply plaster above and re-do the cornice in that section. For your reference Performance Labels: Window assemblies in housing, except timber windows, must be labelled so the label can be seen when it is in situ. For timber… 6 10121 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8434 That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 18184 |
