Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Sep 05, 2012 4:29 pm I live in a duplex that was built in 1938. The two dwellings have a shared wall where the power supply from the street comes in before the power is split. A bunch of stuff needs to be upgraded because the power supply from the streed is not at regulation height, has cables that are not thick enough to cope with the expected load in our extension, the meter box is not at regulation height and the switchboard is not at regulation height. We also have to pay for all our wiring to be re-done. I am happy to get all this fixed up for myself but what is supposed to happen with my neighbour who shares the same connection from the street? Will he have to get all that stuff upgraded too? Or can a new connection come in from the street which is then hooked up to his sub-standard infrastructure? If he has to upgrade all his stuff, can I force him to pay for this or would I have to pay for his upgrades? Re: Power supply upgrade for old duplex 2Sep 06, 2012 10:44 am Ask the strata manager ( being a duplex I assume your property is strata ) or ask your energy provider for a rep to come out. I think you can enforce the insurance companies policy that if the building is non compliant with current regulations ( and I bet it doesn't ) then the whole building should be upgraded. Stewie That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8648 Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11039 Give Jonathan a call. Tell him you know me. He is in my opinion the best surveyor I have ever worked with. His number is 0425 285 622 All the best Simeon 3 12423 |
