Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Sep 03, 2012 1:55 pm Hi guys, I am new to this -new to renovating and new to this forum:) Our home here in Noosa flooded in February and finally after many months the rebuild is progressing and we are starting on our kitchen. We should finally be able to move home in about 6 weeks. Yippee!! I am undecided on the kitchen bench and would like some feedback. Our floors are a glossy travertine in a creamy natural colour. We are having vivid white 2 pac cupbpards/drawers with a feature of Laminex 'stringybark' to the back of the bench - where the bar stools sit. The splashback tiles will complement this with a greyish tile with white grout. We had originally picked a plain white low fleck stone such as Luna White or New Diamond White by Quantum Quartz - but I have since seen 'Astral' by Smart Stone in a local shop here on there counter and it looked amazing! The fleck is a bit bigger and it has the shimmery little pieces of mirror in it. I am just a bit worried it will look 'too much' and clash with everything else. Does anyone else have 'Astral' by Smartstone or has seen it? Any advice greatly appreciated! Re: Kitchen Bench 2Sep 03, 2012 1:58 pm Hi Noosagirl Your kitchen sounds amazing, looking forward to seeing a photo. I can't say that I have seen 'Astral' in a kitchen yet, but I have picked it for our kitchen bench for our build. I love it and the mirror in it looks fantastic. Hope someone can post a picture, would love to see it too. Re: Kitchen Bench 3Sep 03, 2012 2:10 pm Thanks Nes173 for your reply. So you have chosen it too? I was lucky enough to see it all made up in a giftware shop here in Noosa so I feel pretty confident that I will love it. I was just worried it wouldn't go with everything else we had already chosen but hopefully it will. It definitely had a wow factor in the shop under the downlights. I'm sure the ladies working in there think I'm a bit strange cos I keep going in to stare at it! Have also taken hubby in and was surprised he loved it too. Didn't think he would be so keen on the bling! Kitchen should start end of this week so I will post some pics when it all happens. Are you having the stone in the waterfall style so that it runs down to the floor? And do you know what colour cabinetry you are going with? Re: Kitchen Bench 4Sep 03, 2012 2:14 pm Hey Noosagirl, it's nice to hear that you loved it and you have seen it on a large scale. I picked it after seeing a small sample of it. Yes, we are having waterfall ends on our kitchen cabinets. Our cabinetry is gloss white laminate on the bottom cupboards and black wood grain polytec on the overhead cupboards with a glass splash back (haven't decided the splashback colour yet but thinking a white of just off white). Re: Kitchen Bench 5Sep 03, 2012 2:19 pm Sounds lovely! We had originally planned to have some colour in the cupboards but I couldn't decide - so we went back to white. We were lucky enough to find a kitchen we loved in a display home and went with the same floor tiles and the Stringybark feature as was in the display home. Made it a bit easier to visualise how it would all go together. I have found it really hard making all these colour choices! Best of luck with it all x Re: Kitchen Bench 6Sep 03, 2012 7:59 pm Noosagirl Hi guys, I am new to this -new to renovating and new to this forum:) Our home here in Noosa flooded in February and finally after many months the rebuild is progressing and we are starting on our kitchen. I would get a sample from the comapany sent you so you can play with it against your other selections. Its very similar to a few of the stones out there with the silver specks in them. They all work well as they are very neutral.
