Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jul 31, 2012 11:52 am As the title suggests I have a federation semi and the mortar on the front facade has started to fail. I would like to have at go at repairing this myself and have found some useful information on how to do this but have the following questions: 1. Lime mortar appears to be what is used but the sand/lime/cement ratios tend to be debateable - does anyone have advice on the ratio? Is it location specific maybe or another reason/s? 2. Mine is a coloured mortar (red) with the white tuckpointing - is there a trick to matching the (red) colour correctly apart from trial and error? eg maybe a common mix (or oxide) that was done back in the day? 3. Can you recommend a supplier of materials and tools in Sydney that would also be able to offer some advice on the job? Not the sort of thing I think a major hardware chain would be too insightful on. Happy to receive any advice on the above or other points you think I may have overlooked.
