Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jun 17, 2012 8:57 am We are renovating our Brisbane home and need a new fence...sorry not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I have a few questions
1. what is the procedure of getting a fence along with the neighbours ...on one side the fence was in bad condition and fell down (was wooden) & on the other side there is no fence as such just wire mesh.....we now have a dog so need a proper fence on all boundary lines. 2. we want a colour bond fence but were wondering if we can get one on a payment plan of some sort as we are short on cash and really really need a fence asap as we are moving back to Brisbane in the next month and all our cash has gone into other things like the kitchen & bathroom! If anyone can help me that would be great. Our house is in Chapel Hill, Brisbane so any fence people would need to be Brisbane or surrounds based. Re: New Fence 2Jun 17, 2012 4:59 pm It varies from State to State but in SA Councils have a free booklet called Fences and the Law, which contains all the relevant forms including Notice of intention to erect a fence , Notice of intention to perform replacement, repair or maintenance work, Cross notices (if you disagree with any of the previous notices) and finally a Fencing agreement. It may sound a tad over the top but as my Council explained, should one party renege on payment over any number of excuses (and they do) and should it go to Court you have nothing to back up your claims with only verbal agreements. My neighbor didn't mind and I gave him copies of all quotes and receipts. It could possibly cost you more for time payment IF you can get it. So the lesson here is to always keep something in reserve for fencing etc It may pay to lose the large print too Arfur Re: New Fence 3Jun 17, 2012 5:05 pm Sorry about the large print, have bad eyes so find small print hard The fence wasn't a priority before as we had no dog so easily could have moved in without one, the move is sudden so now we are a tad stuck since we thought having a bathroom and kitchen, lounge and bedroom were slightly more important than a fence and did not budget for one as we were going to save up and do the fence when we could. Thanks for info about the fence laws will see if Qld have something similar Re: New Fence 4Jun 18, 2012 11:53 am It depends how adventurous your dog is but you may be able to use some temporary fencing, such as rolls of perforated orange plastic about a metre wide, supported by star droppers or stakes, all available at Bunnings. Perhaps even dig the bottom into the ground so the dog cant slide out under it. Failing that its sections of wire fencing possibly from a salvage yard which can be expensive Arfur Re: New Fence 6Jun 19, 2012 9:22 am try an electric fence, our puppy soon got zapped and never goes near the fence, it works so well that we have not turned it on for a while but he does not know that. The fence only has a small zap so not to hurt him. It is basically a single tape with wires inside that runs around your property and is very visual. Building Standards; Getting It Right!
