Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 25, 2012 8:05 pm Hi all We're renovating a 70s brick home and are about to put on a deck with insulated flyover roof. I hadn't given our red roof much thought until I realised we had a pick a deck roof colour. It made me start thinking of perhaps repainting the red roof. I don't like the red so didn't want to choose a red deck roof. So we settled on CB Monument. I quite like our black doors and other touches on the house. Our deck is going to be timber with black vertical posts for the balustrade. So black is good! I was all set to have a CB Monument deck roof but we can't. So what do you think best goes with a Monument roof (or even the current red roof - it will probably be red for a year or two!). Colours to choose from are (Stratco colour first and then CB equivalent): 1. Off White/Surfmist 2. Smooth Cream/Classic Cream 3. Merino/Paperbark 4. Birch/Dune It's so hard because I don't really want to match new exterior colours to the old ones as I don't like the old ones. But I can't be sure when/if we'll ever do anything else to the outside. Currently we have: - Red decromastic roof - Black gutters - Black fascia - Cream eaves - Cream brick - Cream downpipes - Silver (raw aluminium) window frames - Black exterior doors I've been wondering about window frames is because we need to buy a new sliding door for the deck (a window is being cut away to make room for a door). So that led me to thinking to the future and did we want to eventually replace or refurbish our existing window frames. If so we had to decide on a colour! We tossed up over black or white. I like black from the outside but not so much from the inside. Wasn't 100% on white either. Didn't want a colour either (ie cream, blue, grey). Then I thought perhaps we could have silver and that way if we never replace the other windows in the house it wouldn't matter as the new door would blend in. So we're tossing up between Ultra Silver Gloss powercoat or clear anodised (basically raw aluminium but with a special coating). Okay that was long Here's our house to give you an idea. Deck drawing. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You can't even really see our roof colour as you drive up to the house. Just not visible! From the yard, I'm not sure how visible the deck roof will be? It will be angled like that green patio roof that's in the pic but obviously up above the house roof (like in my dad's drawings). So I think you'd have to be right up in the back of the yard to see much. I wish I had PS. I'd try and do the CB colours on my dad's drawing! I'll see what my hubby can do in Paint later tonight. Is anyone able to help with my deck drawing by PSing the house roof Monument and then the deck roof in the 4 colours above? I would really appreciate it! It's doing my head in! Just about to dash off to kitchen guy, but will come back and think on this for you. Thanks! My dad drew up the deck pic on CAD. I think it was CAD... It really helped me visualise it all! Especially the stairs. As we tried about 10 different positions for them! Architect has now been out and plans are with council. Renovating our 1970s home Re: Help with exterior colours for old house and new deck 4May 27, 2012 7:11 pm I dreamer - I can't use any of those programs that you mentioned, sorry. My DH does our sketches. But that drawing looks great and the the double deck will be superb. I see what you mean about red (we also had a red house) but good thing is you can't see it driving up like you say. My instinct would be to go the Dune and Monument colour scheme. This is very neutral. I am also not a fan of cream, hence my choice. Another option is to put moroka (like a sand paint) on the creme bricks when you have the time / money. Good luck! I quite like Dune but I thought Classic Cream / Paperbark matches the bricks better. So we need to choose a colour for the deck roof but we also need to repaint the downpipes and eaves. Was just going to pick one colour to do all of them. I don't want to introduce too many. Rendering/moroka would be great. Maybe one day ... Renovating our 1970s home Re: Help with exterior colours for old house and new deck 6May 27, 2012 8:01 pm actually, yeah good not to have too many colours. A rule of thumb I have heard is no more than 4 colours. My problem is that I am not a fan of cream... But it is a personal thing.
