Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 21, 2012 3:11 pm Hi, Im new to the forum and I would like to ask some advice. We live in Brisbane and decided to extened our house. We'd like to add an extra room at the front (around 20sqm). The house is brick and part of the tiled roof will need to be extended. We'll be doing all the electrical, plumbing, rendering and plastering ourselves but need a builder to put up the external frame and roof. How much could they really ask for that ? I am waiting for a quote but would like to hear some advice in the meantime. Anything over 30,000 will be too much for us. Am I being too unrealistic ? Thanks in advance. Re: House extension- Extra Room 2May 24, 2012 8:04 pm It is hard to gauge the cost, will the frame be on stumps and who does the external caldding? However the construction of a 20m2 frame and timber would be about $ 5k material and $ 4k labour. These figures are for the carpentry work only. @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. Re: House extension- Extra Room 3May 24, 2012 11:11 pm Thanks for your reply. The external cladding will be done by the builder but I am not sure if the frame will be on stumps since I don't know much about building. I did ask another couple of builders to give me quotes, I just hope they give me honest figures. Some didn't like the idea of having us doing some of the work and didn't want to come out at all.
