As part of a renovation a new carport was built. It is freestanding 6m x3.7m and is constructed with 90x90 DAR treated pine posts with timber trusses to the carport roof which is terra cotta tiles. The posts are anchored to concrete with shoes to SWL =25 kn. to AS 1720 standard.
Our problem is that it sways if you apply any pressure. We were concerned, and the original engineers have inspected it and say that it meets the AS requirements but to lessen the sway -movement it should be attached by bracing to the house to minimise movement. This is unacceptable to us as it would be an eyesore. An independent engineer was employed who detailed that the builder should have known better that the original design wouldn't work and that it doesn't meet the standard. The builders argument is that he built what was specified. Council won't certify
How can we proceed with this.
