Wouldn't mind knowing exactly what people prefer and why. I suppose DIY works out cheaper, however it is more physical work. The subcontracting is generally more expensive, however less physical strain, BUT, I always hear about how the service does not always work out the way you want it to. Conversely, nothing looks worse than a botched amateur DIY as evident on Home Reno TV shows from the UK where it seems a trained chimp can undertake renovations, with no consequence. I guess if you work in an office and working on tools is alien, you have little choice but sub-contracting and all its pitfalls. Being a retired tradie it comes second nature to DIY.
