Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Apr 08, 2012 12:14 pm Who has done it? We are at present living through the process and it's an interesting experience to say the least. Not in a bad way either! Maybe I'm strange but I'm thinking of the uneven bouncy floors, gaps that have opened up and foot high step into the house as an adventure. Right now we are supported on jacks and temporary props with the majority of the new concrete stumps in place. We also made the decision to raise the floor level a foot permanently because the front of the house was virtually on the ground and it will help avoid rot issues in the future as well as make it easier for tradesmen to get about under there. Many of the stumps were rotten and fallen over. We also have some rotten joists and rot in some floorboards. They also removed our crumbling fireplace (which was shared by two rooms) rather than try to keep it so we have to decide what to do here. Not sure if we will get another one built or just forget about it and utilize the space because they went diagonal across a corner. It's dirty, drafty and a bit cold but we're keeping positive A blog about our renovation http://notmynightmare.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Living through re-stumping! 2Apr 08, 2012 4:46 pm we contemplated it .... but thank god we didn't. Read our thread, our re-stumping experience wasn't a pleasant one Re: Living through re-stumping! 3Apr 08, 2012 9:14 pm We did it with our very first house, the re-stumpers couldn't gain access under the house so we had to remove all the floor boards, put down sheets of ply so we could still live in it, re-stump and put the floor boards back down. It was quite an experience I would not like to do again, glad we did it when we were young and adventurous. Re: Living through re-stumping! 4Apr 10, 2012 7:38 pm Thanks for the replies PaulMac we didn't have to go in through the floor luckily. I'll bet that was difficult to endure! Screen7 wow that is an amazing extension! Bet you are loving it! The job was finished today so I'm glad to say we happily survived the first stage of our renovation journey. The jacks were let down which was slightly scary. Especially when the fibro walls flexed and i thout one of the kitched cupboards was falling off the wall. A few rotten joists were replaced. They also put some joists and particle board flooring where the fire place was to cover up the hole. Poor kids are a bit put out that the bouncy floor has gone but they soon forgot about that when they realized there was a new "cubby" to play in I need to get organized and share some photos A blog about our renovation http://notmynightmare.blogspot.com.au/ yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle 3 7326 Hi When it rains in a particular direction water comes through the security door.
