Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Mar 27, 2012 10:38 am I recently purchased a second hand kitchen on eBay for a renovation I am currently doing and came to the realisation that when I was pulling out the kitchen from the sellers house that I had serious trouble removing the existing splash back from the wall... I ended up cutting the splash back out of the wall (plaster and all) just so I could take it with me however removing the plaster and silicon from the glass is proving to be quite difficult.. Does anyone have any experience with a similar situation that can potentially help me out? Thanks, Re: Re-using a kitchen splash back 2Apr 06, 2012 9:49 pm I got told by a kitchen supplier once the glass is up, that's it, you can't use it again. How did you go...any luck? Depending on adhesive try different solvents (turps, acetone) it will soften up use a plastic scraper Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Re-using a kitchen splash back 4Apr 10, 2012 11:50 am Quote: Depending on adhesive try different solvents (turps, acetone) it will soften up use a plastic scraper. Maybe cherub but you will take off the paint as well. Most glass splashbacks are clear glass with paint on the rear side to give them the colour and are usually acrylic paint as well unless I am mistaken. Micheal. I doubt very much whether you will be able to cut the glass to fit either as most glass splashbacks use toughened glass. The only chance of damage will be through scratches, hence the plastic scraper Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Re-using a kitchen splash back 6Apr 12, 2012 12:24 pm Thanks for the replies guys! Well I can confidently say that I managed to get the splashback up on the new plasterboard and it looks brand new. I ended up leaving it turned face down (plasterboard exposed to the weather) and waited a week. It rained, the plasterboard went soggy and peeled straight off. For the silicon and adhesive, I simply scraped it off using a small plaster trowel - no scratches to the paint. Very happy! Thanks and i'll be sure to upload a photo for you too!
