The extension will be a carbon copy of the ground floor, maybe slightly more narrow than what it is now (same length), the ceramic tiles are in excellent condition, so really, I am wondering can this be done (albeit wtih a few modifications to the trusses)? At times they extended the external walls up, leaving the original eaves and shortened roof line to break the bareness off a plain 2 storey wall. Errr ceramic tiles? Do you mean cement roof tiles? Most existing tiles were saved (where possible, as many were broken) and used across the back of the addition with new ones used at the front to cut costs. Your builder will advise you best when quoting on your plans, but trying to do things on the cheap is fraught with danger.
