Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 09, 2012 8:27 pm have to rewire a timber framed house with skillion roof - ie no/poor access to run new wiring. under floor access is pretty good so not too worried about power points. during renovations some internal and external cladding will be replaced so I can take advantage of that to get some some new wiring in, however am thinking what other solutions are out there? eg, running wiring from ceiling light to (internal) wall switch almost impossible - have seen some cheap remote controlled swicthing on evil-bay, would these be reliable? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/260950617909 ... 1438.l2649 also will be putting in some ceiling fans, and altho I am not a big fashion fan (pun intended) of fans with lights something like this, with remote controlled light and fan, is a solution: http://www.martecceilingfans.com.au/mpduo I am not really looking at home automation, but maybe there is a solution there somewhere. I guess the essence of my question is, is wireless a viable solution? thanks in advance. Re: rewiring framed house 2Feb 13, 2012 6:06 pm Easiest and quickest ( cheapest ) way is to pop a few sheets off the roof , run your cables then re-affix the roof. We've done it a number of times for some of the renovations I've been involved in, Only other way is if you are going to reclad the internal wall and ceiling linings. For every light to switch run you could also just cut out around the nogs or top plate , run the cables and get a plasterer to patch the walls. A nice sandwich. Good insulation however. Hoping not to go there. Quote: Only other way is if you are going to reclad the internal wall and ceiling linings. Stewie and the plaster walls are lathe and plaster, except for a couple which i am redoing. the ceiling is all lathe and plaster. thanks for the suggestions tho If I can't get some good feedback on wireless I am going to try and run a wire from the new light fittings across to an internal or external wall where I have removed the cladding. In another house I once installed those old style pull cord switches - which suited the 1902 house fine. Re: rewiring framed house 4Mar 02, 2012 12:11 am If you can pull the cladding off to run between the roof sheets and plaster, you might be able to get down the wall the same way and you will be set! If you have asbestos roof sheets then I would guess 1, the roof can't be lifted, its asbestos removal or don't touch 2, the existing wiring may be Indian rubber, or worse, split conduit and or cotton wiring, in which case disturbing the wiring means pulling it all out and running new wires any way! But, I have never tried it but Legrand has a product available locally, zigby I think they call it, I believe it has wireless switches, try a local electrical wholesaler, they may have one they can show you You’re on the right track, wire brush in a grinder then a zinc rich epoxy primer then a top coat of some sort, like a waterproofing membrane.
