The ceiling will need downlights installed and i have noticed that most 'standard' dls state not for use in timber... ...does anyone have suggestions for products that are suitable? Google brings up lots of pictures of timber ceilings with DLs installed but i find precious little info on what to use. They have a little fire symbol on them. my house blog: http://sugarloafdrivebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Downlights for a timber ceiling? 3Nov 30, 2011 8:00 am You may find that LED is a better option as they produce less heat. The heat is going to be the issue when fitting into timber I think. Re: Downlights for a timber ceiling? 4Nov 30, 2011 10:27 pm I have installed standard downlights into timber ceilings before, the main thing is to make sure that all the fine wood dust that is produced from cutting the hole is cleaned up in the roof space as this is the main fire risk. The best option is LED lights but in my opinion the light colour isn't very nice it will take time for the industry to develop the same colour as normal incandesent lights which is a nice warm colour. Make sure you allow the electrician the extra time to do this job properly as you only get 1 chance, you can't patch a timber ceiling so time is needed for marking out and checking whats above before pointing a holesaw at your very nice ceiling. Regards, Al Hi, I am sorry if this is the wrong place to put this but this is my first attempt on this site. I am unsure about different materials which can be used for an outside ceiling in the wood look without paying the wood price. Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction..........sorry if this is completely off your subject line.
