Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Nov 24, 2011 3:13 pm Hi all, How close can I put a pergola footing to my house? Here are the details: 1. My brick veneer house foundation is pier/beam on strip footing on highly reactive clay. 2. It has a sort of indentation/alcove area where there used to be a deck (about 3x4m) nestled in to the side of the house. It was attached to the veneer (which is solid bricks). 3. The deck rotted a bit and I wanted to get rid of it and clear the rubbish underneath and inspect a step crack in one of the alcove walls. I've done all that. I think the crack was just a bit of settlement and I'm not worried about it. 4. Now I want to rebuild the deck, but include a pergola with it. I want the structure to be freestanding this time. 5. My main problem at the moment is deciding where to place the post footings. For the posts on the outer edges of the pergola/deck it's easy - concrete pads in the soil, 600 deep say. 6. But the posts that go next to the wall of the house is the problem. I'd like them to be as close as possible to the wall so I don't have them sticking out from the 'middle' of the deck. But this leads me to my main question: Question: Is it safe to pour a concrete pad adjacent to my brick veneer, resting on top of my house's strip footing, for a deck/pergola post? There are two such posts in question. The others should be fine - one of them will be beside strip footing, but not resting on top of it. The other post is away from the house. Hopefully I can get an image to work on this thing, sure it will help. Thanks! Surrey Hills, Vic 3127 Garage is being built with metal, 3m distance away from my cover deck. It is parallel to my cover deck, living room, family room and kitchen,… 0 9611 Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone has switched from a small square tile insert or normal square waste to a strip drain at all, and if so did the plumber or diy-er… 0 13128 |
