Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Nov 23, 2011 4:44 pm Hi All, I have been stalking this site for the last 12 months and thought it was time to start my own thread on our 1956 farm house renovation. We were handed down this house from my husbands grandparents on their family farm. Which we actually live on at the moment a few hundred meters down the road from this house. As you can see by the plans, we have changed and extened the house a lot. The front wall and some of the framing is the only thing that was left. As we plan to live in the house until we are put in a home We wanted to make sure it lasted us and our three children (DD 5, DS 3, DS 1) the next sixty years and so made the decision to replaster and wire etc. The exisitng house was 16sq and now it is 29.2sq's of living + dbl garage + alfresco + verrandah. The original layout of the house... http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/ctm629/Picture4388.jpg The new house design... http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/ctm629/Picture4389.jpg Front of the house... http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/ctm629/Picture002.jpg Back of the house... http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/ctm629/Picture004.jpg I hope I have posted the photos right! I will post more photos of the build when I get a chance. Currently we are up to tiling and hoping to be by Christmas. Look forward to seeing more pics! Our building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51657 Re: 1956 Farm House Major Renovation 4Nov 23, 2011 8:33 pm Thanks guys. Thought I would add some more photos of the inside. We finally got locked out yesterday. So far the builders have just left the doors unlocked (or not on, in some cases ). Every night when the builders left we would head up for a look. DH thinks he might have to swap a slab for a key. So I'll have to wait for the updated photos. Oh, the reason we didnt start from scratch which we probably should have done, was that the house was handed down to us and DH grandparents had built the house in 1956 and prior to that there was a very old house directly behind this place where they lived until they built. We couldnt just start again, altho it doesnt resemble its former glory now, Nanna is still happy that we will be moving in. Ok, Kitchen area... http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/ctm629/Picture3907.jpg Living room, which will become rumpus http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/ctm629/Picture3909.jpg Main bedroom, which will become Bedroom 2... http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/ctm629/Picture3912.jpg Laundry... http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/ctm629/Picture3918.jpg Bathroom... http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/ctm629/Picture3917.jpg Entrance... http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/ctm629/Picture3911.jpg House totally gutted... http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/ctm629/Picture4020.jpg Oh, our colour selections.. For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: 1956 Farm House Major Renovation 7Nov 24, 2011 10:14 am I love your plans, the veranda is going to be beautiful, you can't beat a veranda that wraps around a building but your has so much more style. I lived in a old 50s farm house (rental) years ago and we loved it, it was old and run down but the rooms were so big and it had a wonderful feel to it. Love your mud room too can't wait to follow your build Is your farm a working farm still? Was it Dairy Chooks or Pigs?
