Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Aug 20, 2011 8:32 pm Hi all We have an extension on a house we moved into about 18 months ago that has a concrete floor. I'd like to do something different with it rather than wood and love the look of polished concrete. A bit of research seems to suggest that this can be done to an existing floor (as apposed to laying the concrete specifically to be polished) but I'm not sure how expensive this could/would be? I don't know the thickness of the concrete that is there or how thick it has to be to be polished. Does anyone have any experience of this or have any ideas of how I can get a rough idea of cost? I have a couple of companies to call and get a quote but I was just looking to get a ball park figure to see if its a realistic possibility. Cheers for any help. We are looking at putting an offer in on a house and I also love the look of polished concrete but wasn't sure if it was doable on an older home. My hubby had a brief look and said it looks to be around $47 sqm. Re: Polished concrete floor 5Sep 16, 2011 5:32 pm beaglebum My hubby had a brief look and said it looks to be around $47 sqm. That sounds a little low, onc artisan should be able to give you a pretty accurate idea what the real costs are. There are a lot of different systems out there, steer clear of the ones that use resins and coating products. Real concrete polishing is called honing, much more durable and looks great too.
