Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Aug 16, 2011 9:38 am Hi All, We are doing some renovations to the house we just bought, and would love some feedback on our current ideas. http://imageshack.us/g/847/newlayout.jpg/ Hopefully the link above works, which means that you should be able to see a drawing of the existing back of the house, and the suggested new lay out. My two questions: would you put the WIR where it is, or perhaps put in normal wardrobes to keep the room 'open'?? (the new ensuite needs to be where it is for technical reasons) Secondly, would you put in a 'juliet balcony / french windows' instead of the three normal windows in the middle? (the drwawing should make more sense...) Thank you kindly! ps in case it is important to know, the other side of the upstairs contains two more bedrooms and a living space that is open to the stairs. (to show up pics click 'Embed image' and then copy and paste the forum link into your post) good luck with it all Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building in upstairs verandah - comments welcome! 3Aug 16, 2011 2:12 pm ps a juliette balcony would be nice..depends how often you would open the doors for airflow..or a window more? I like J balconies on the right house. have you done a plan with a juliette? remember the doors open inside (so take up space) and you have a railing..so blocks view out from bed Re: Building in upstairs verandah - comments welcome! 4Aug 17, 2011 8:46 am Thanks Kiwi! We haven't done a drawing with the j balcony idea as of yet; but it would be more like french doors opening to the inside with a flat, wrought iron style balustrade on the outside (preventing you from tumbling down). Good point on the doors opening to the inside, especially with the WIR where it is right now, it might not leave enough space to walk through to the ensuite - might have to step it out in-situ! Good point on the doors opening to the inside, especially with the WIR where it is right now, it might not leave enough space to walk through to the ensuite - might have to step it out in-situ! you see them a lot in france. They are lovely and a good use of illusional space, if you dont have a deck etc I dont undertand why you cant just have a balcony on top of the roof though? all it needs is some water proof membrane thing and a railing. (and maybe some bigger joists? but they should be big anyway) then you can sit out and actually look at the view and not just from your bed, cos no room for a chair cos right in the way of bathroom/ wir you could have it as a master retreat then. chill out zone, no kids aloud... oooowww, you could have a spa up there!! now that will really need reinforcing, but how cool would that be! Re: Building in upstairs verandah - comments welcome! 6Aug 29, 2011 3:55 pm I like your WIR, big area. Do not need to keep it open, you already have enough space for your master room. And If I build that, I may close that door and have open left hand side (No door). put some downlight in and hanging on both side and design the cabinet in middle. Just a Thought I have a home gym at home. It weights 150KG including the weight stack. I'm a big boy, around 150KG myself. I was thinking about moving it up stairs to the second… 0 6296 Tradie may sit at home but will need to get house plastered as well or will you sit it out? 6 9938 Hi, I'll be starting on my verandah repair soon - replace ledger, rafters, roofing iron, flashing etc. (fascia board already done). My question is about the timber ledger… 0 3321 |
