I love reno's too however I am not sure how you manage to do it with little ones under your feet. I have two little ones at the moment and the thought of undertaking a reno with them hanging onto my legs sends me into a mild state of panic - you (and your wife) are braver than me. Keep the pics coming - Love them Re: Never say 'Never again !" 3Jul 31, 2011 11:29 am Thanks Charnley. It is a struggle with the kids, but we somehow get there in the end. My 3 sons will probly end up in the building trade with all what they see me do at home, my daughter will be the designer. Hopefully they can take over where I left off. It's very rewarding to do and financially has been a blessing for us, as most times I make between $50,000 and $100,000 profit. The injuries suck though ! Not one of those houses pictured had any character before I started them. A big face lift to get to that stage. I do all the work myself except power and plumbing. Occasionally I get some tradies in if I am hurting from back probs. Re: Never say 'Never again !" 4Jul 31, 2011 12:33 pm eyspy Thanks Charnley. Re: Never say 'Never again !" 5Jul 31, 2011 1:43 pm Wow, you have done a great job. I can see why you are addicted, the reward you get from making such a huge change to a home, is so worth it. I am addicted to buying and selling, I just love decorating and when I have finished, it get bored and think, time to sell. I think my hubbi is over it though, so I will have to find another hobby. Re: Never say 'Never again !" 6Aug 04, 2011 8:41 am My hubbie would love to do what you do, and our family sounds a bit like yours! Hubbie is a chippy, nephew is a chippy, 1 son is apprentice carpenter, another an apprentice plumber, and I have gone back to school to study building design (drafting), so guess I'll be the bookwork/design/plan/general dogs body-lacky Re: Never say 'Never again !" 7Aug 04, 2011 8:50 am tjilpi My hubbie would love to do what you do Your family will be well rewarded if he does. Lot of joy in it for me, I am sure that he will love it as well, especially with the skills accumulated in your family. Go for it ! Re: Never say 'Never again !" 8Aug 10, 2011 3:34 pm elea123m I think you're a type of person that not easily contented... but wow your house is really good. Hmmmm ? Not sure whether I am not easy contented or just that I get bored quickly ? But I do enjoy the satisfaction immensely that comes from re creating houses. Re: Never say 'Never again !" 9Aug 10, 2011 4:25 pm Wow ... what can I say ... what transformations you have created. It must be so satisfying - lucky you that you are able to do most of it yourself! Hats off to you For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Never say 'Never again !" 10Aug 12, 2011 4:18 pm Very beautiful homes. The third one especially because it reminds me of my grandparents house. Both are not among us. Re: Never say 'Never again !" 12Aug 26, 2011 10:48 am my goodness - they take my breathe away. What a tremendous job you have done ! Can I ask, did you live in them while renovating? My family (6 of us) are STILL renovating one after 12 years AND we are living in it ! Nightmare on Dove Street lol. again - well done - and if it's what you love then DO IT Re: Never say 'Never again !" 13Aug 26, 2011 10:55 am magolly Can I ask, did you live in them while renovating? Thanks for the kind comments. Yes I lived in every one of them whilst renovating. The Kadina house pictured I had to live offsite for a few months whilst doing the bathrooms, but the rest you learn to live with the dust and mess. The more kids you have the harder it is to do this. With 4 kids now, if I do tackle another I am sure we will rent so I can get the bulk of the work done before moving in as it's just way too hard to keep the rest of the mob happy. That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17871 |
