Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jul 15, 2011 4:40 pm Hello I am an owner builder and have just placed the roof tiles on my extension . I placed 1200 tiles on 2 hip roofs ; My question regards the means of ensuring that the tiles that are cut at the valleys are not able to be easily moved or lifted by the possums for example ; similarly, at the ridges , there are always edge tiles that are not sitting on the battens ; how exactly do roof tilers ensure they do not move are are well placed ( same plan as the other tiles and with their nose aligned ? Note that my tiles are old wunderlich terracotta and have a hole somewhere under the tile for tying to the battens Thanks for any tips or pointers Re: Roofing with tiles- valleys and ridges 2Aug 05, 2011 9:42 pm Hi, For your valleys you can get valley clips, what these do is hold the smaller tile that is not sitting in the battens to the tile next to it, they just slide under. When i was tiling i would liquid nails the tile and then apply the clip, it holds very well. You could also do the same for the others. Hope that helps. I have been told that a batten is placed between the hip and the closest rafter ; On that batten the little tiles are drilled and screwed or nailed; I was just wondering how to do it in a way that enables me to avoid going up and down the roof too many times , i.e in a systematic manner . I found this site that explains how to use these clips http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb8T6vCrYLk Thanks again Firstly the ableflex that has been installed needs (manufactures specification) a sealant cap over the top, preventing water draining down between the slab and the… 3 5400 Our house was completed 8 years ago.
