Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jun 28, 2011 7:04 pm Hi All, DH and I have an older home on 5 acres and we are going to be renovating over the coming.....probably years. I have a question though. The skirting boards are really thin and quite knocked around, so I had wanted to do something a bit thicker like a 66mm. Though I am not always that observant. I now notice quite a few of a windows go pretty much to the floor. What do we do? I will try and add a photo http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x35 ... C00012.jpg So do we have to stick with a small one? Or can we just make a cut out to fit it? Would like help/opinions/advice. Thanks heaps Re: Help/Question about skirting boards with a pic 2Jul 13, 2011 7:29 pm How many windows do you have that are low like the one in the pic? I will check tonight. There is another window that goes all the way to the floor and the timber is inset to the carpet and two ranch sliders off bedrooms. I will make a better observation tonight and post again. Alisa Re: Help/Question about skirting boards with a pic 4Jul 14, 2011 7:44 pm Back with some proper info. So we have three rooms with ranchsliders so they won't need bottom skirting. There is one window that goes all the way to the carpet and the timber is inset in the floor. So there are 3 windows like the photo. The others are kitchen toilet laundry etc and no skirting near window. Re: Help/Question about skirting boards with a pic 5Jul 17, 2011 5:10 pm If you change the architrave's and run the sides all the way to the floor, replacing the section in between the new arch's with a flat piece of matching timber ( looks like meranti) then butt new skirting up to new arch's to give a nice clean finish. Hope that helps or at least makes sense . Building Standards; Getting It Right! Is this acceptable in a new house build. Floors where installed by builder.
