Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jun 28, 2011 11:01 am Hey all, so ive realised why everyone complains about councils! All i want to do is to install a small veradah out the back of my house. I never realised it was so involved. I really want to build this project myself and source all the products etc. I have no desire to go to a home reno mob and pay 10k for something i can do myself for the cost of materials. Plus im not going to get the same statisfaction. Does anyone has some verdah plans that they got approved for recently and that they would mind sharing with me? My project is going to be a small 40 - 50 sqm veradah (with an sheet metal roof) and i live the the Mitcham Council area (Adelaide Metro) Im guessing that most councils have some sort of development approval process so im guessing there is some sort of similarity between councils. Thanks gang. Re: Anyone got some council approved veradah / plans? 2Jun 28, 2011 11:32 am marty333 ... My project is going to be a small 40 - 50 sqm veradah (with an sheet metal roof) ... Lived in that area for ever and they are a pain to deal with. I would suggest speak to them directly and ask exactly what is required so you dont have to go back and forth with them (time consuming). Make sure you just cross all you T's and dot all you i's. Goodluck Re: Anyone got some council approved veradah / plans? 4Jun 28, 2011 1:33 pm The guy i have been dealing with at the Council has been super helpful i would be alot further behind where am i now if it wasnt for him. I guess its just very frustrating because all i want to do is put up a simple veradah and i need to jump through hoops to do it. I have a 'checklist' that the council provide for sign off and ive ticked all the boxes with that. I belive the difficult thing is going to be getting "building" consent. I think this is where i need to show them what material i'll be using, the attchment method and the specifications of the timber etc Re: Anyone got some council approved veradah / plans? 5Jun 28, 2011 4:27 pm I have some hand drawn plans I used to get my 2m x 6m verandah through local council building control.
