The kitchen design has waterfall edges so I think a lighter quartzstone mix will clash less with the highly speckled concrete than a more sparkly one like Smartstone Astral. What insulation thickness did you use? And will you still need to insulate the timber frame behind? I've been tossing up whether to use Hardie's Scyon or some other metal cladding on a granny flat in Stanmore, but with chronic aircraft noise I'm not sure they will be adequate. Considering ICF but these look as though they could be quite effective. Cheers, Dave Re: NSW - Newtown rebuild - updated flythroughs 23Oct 15, 2011 5:16 pm Hi Dave, It certainly looks great but it came at a premium. It worked out at $100 per square metre, and that was just supply cost. I used the 80mm insulation because I figure it was just a little bit extra to get top insulation. 80mm is R4.15 as opposed to 50mm which is R2.65. This means the timber frame doesn't need to be insulated behind, which has made running the fixings very easy for the plumber and electrician. I suspect it won't be so good for keeping out the noise because it is quite a dense material. I haven't put any acoustic batts in at the moment but depending how things go, I might put some in the framing down the track. I didn't go ahead with Scyon because it doesn't have any insulative properties and I didn't want to use any Hardies products besides. I considered ICF too but space is so important in the inner city that I just felt having 200mm-thick walls with 6-star insulative values was worth paying a premium for. Hope that helps.
