Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jun 27, 2011 1:19 pm Hi, HELP! Any advice, suggestions would be much appreciated! So far we are not sure what to do, except that we do need a garage very soon. The kids have moved all of thier "stuff" into our underhouse garage and workshop while working out thier own housing situation. We figure thier project will take at least 2 years. I have one stressed husband who is suffering from the loss of what I call "boys world." We want to add a garage at the side of our 2 story brick house. Approximate size of 6 metres by 7.5. We chose skillion roofed because we think it will have better street apeal. Originally we decided to attach the garage to the house wall, meaning only three sides would be added. We are still waiting (4 weeks on) on a quote from a firm who said they could make it in all metal. We want an attractive folding door at the front, again for street appeal. The above firm came back with a very reasonable quote on a car port and suggested we fill it in later. They agreed it may not be quite legal that way. Said they were waiting on the engineer for the full quote. Still waiting. I rang another compay who said they wouldn't do it attached to the wall but free standing. We had another builder in (he has done other work for us and has quoted on a deck to go on the back of the house.) who said that he can't compete with the metal extension manufacturers, they consistently underquote him apparently. I've tried to find images of a home with an attractive free standing garage at the front that does not detract from street appeal. Have not been succesful so far and have not found anything locally that fits the mage of an attractive addition. We had a huge colourbond shed at our last house but it was at the back of the house, functional and neat but hidden away. This will be very much part of the street scape.
