Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Re: waterproof paint 5Jun 08, 2011 9:55 am Hi, Emerclad is a waterproofing product for use on floors, it is not designed for use on walls. Why do you want to paint your walls with it? if it is to make the walls waterproof it will not work. There will be too many points where water can penetrate behind the coating like at doors or windows. Always check with the manufacturer prior to installing a product to check that you will not be doing anything to void their warranty. A properly applied acrylic painting system over a properly prepared base is the best way to go, give any of the paint manufacturers a call and they will give you the best free advice. Regards, Simon Re: waterproof paint 6Jun 12, 2011 10:55 pm Hi Simon, I have a south-facing wall at the side of my house that is constructed with villaboard. I know that villaboard is not waterproof only water-resistant...and under sustained wind-driven rain...will allow moisture to penetrate through the material. I wanted a membrane that was flexible such as an acrylic that would provide this protection. According to the product data sheet, emerclad can be used on vertical as well as horizontal surfaces...wall and floor junctions need to be sealed with something similar to sikaflex' sealant. I just wanted something that would give a good seal but I think maybe that a good acrylic paint would do the job. The main problem being that due to the fence line being 15cm from the wall, I can't physically get next to the wall to paint and seal it (unless I lost a lot of weight, i.e; about 50kg, and became a skeleton only). I wanted something that wouldn't need re-sealing for at least 10 years, because I can't go pulling the fence down again. regards, camelia Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7171 Thank you. That is really helpful.
