Currently there is a small dining room and laundry attached that needs to go. I am doing the extension as an owner builder and have all tradesmen organised. However I am wondering if demolition is something I can do myself or do I need someone who is licensed to do the work. Re: Demolishing old extension to our semi detached house 2Mar 24, 2011 8:14 pm It depends on which State you are in but in Victoria, you generally need a building permit for demolition if you are removing any external walls, balconies, part of a roof, etc. From what I understand, owner builders usually don't obtain building permits for demolition work but if you do, you will need to show your building surveyor that you have the knowledge, experience, equipment etc as required by the building regs.
