Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Mar 15, 2011 7:48 pm Hi Everyone My partner and I are in the process of purchasing a house that has an area underneath that has a tiled rumpus room and two very large bedrooms. We are hoping to make some alterations so that it becomes semi self-contained (we would be sharing the laundry) for my mum. Our plans are to construct an archway through one of the walls (it is load-bearing) to join the rumpus room and one of the bedrooms with the goal of the bedroom to become a living room and to install a kitchen in the already tiled rumpus room. As the kitchen is directly above this area we don't believe plumbing will be an issue. Questions are, as these are internal alterations do we need to get Council approval, firstly for the archway in a load bearing wall and secondly for the installation of a second kitchen. In addition, regarding the kitchen, do we run into issues with "granny flats" or are we just putting in a "bar"? Any advice regarding approvals and our plans in general would be hugely appreciated. Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 3468 Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 6290 3 7474 |
