If the build costs blow out say 15%, the cost would be almost $290,000, would it not be cheaper / easier / faster & less stress / heartache just buying a house with the necessary additions already made. Just given the current economic climate / state of the market its alot of money to add to an existing property, would you ever recoup the investment? Good luck Re: Extension plans - Any comments welcomed 22Sep 13, 2011 4:45 pm I hear what your saying, but we've already done the figures and it make more financial sense to extend. Our house is already worth twice what we paid for it. To buy something in our area we would need to borrow at least 300K+. We love the area we live and with kids in school etc we're not prepared to move. The current climate for property prices really doesn't make a difference. The reality is that houses generally double in value every 10 years regardless of what the market does in the short term. Anyway, it appears we have found a builder who is willing to work with us as owner builders. We're confident we can save heaps of money and get EVERYTHING we want done under budget, so very happy!!!
