Hi all.
We have recently purchased an old Heritage home in Adelaide which has a unique feature of having essentially a 3 room basement under the front 3 rooms of the house.. The existing stairs to the basement are not very user friendly and I want to rebuild them. I also want to reorient the door 90 degrees. The current stairs, as walking in from ground level, turn left, then turn right in to the basement. By reorienting the door entry, the stairs will only turn right at the bottom of the stairwell.
I would like to know if re-building the stairs within the existing stairwell footprint is acceptable, even if the risers and goings may not be to code.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
