Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 18, 2023 4:44 pm Hi there, long-time lurker but first time posting. I've bought a house 2 and a bit years ago and last year we had some major water damage on a converted pergola area attached to the main house that we only have a table and rarely use as a dining space. I am using the term dining because the insurance keeps calling it but could this potentially be just a verandah? What would be the difference to define on either a semi-external dining room or a verandah? Insurance has been trying to deny the claim for all sorts of reasons but after failing to prove their point, they are now just sticking to the point that they can't carry out and warrant any repairs as the area only have 2.1m ceiling height. On my understanding, they are kind of admitting everything as they are only saying that can't proceed with the work themselves. So, I am kind of leaning towards having them to just do a cash settlement if that is the case. I was wondering if anyone in this forum could help me out with any ideas arguing their point. I currently have an open case with AFCA where we have been exchanging information before they make a decision on it. edit: this is an old house from the 80s, no idea when the pergola was converted so unsure if would apply to the current code from 1990 Thanks I apologise for any confusion, but your understanding is correct.
