Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Apr 26, 2022 3:46 pm We need to get our picket fence replaced at the front of our Melbourne metro property...nothing special, 15 metres long with a small gate that enters onto a path through our lawn to the front door, and ~2m double gates for the driveway. 900mm pickets, likely cypress pine. I'm having trouble getting anyone to quote on it via the usual 'hire a tradie' websites, with only 1 even bothering to accept quoting for the job. A few websites suggest something in the range of $100 per metre for a picket fence, e.g. hiretrades.com.au say "$63 to $97 per metre for a 1.5m high butt-jointed timber paling fence/picket fence", and we only want it 90cm high. Is it too small a job for tradies to bother with? The one who did call me to discuss what we wanted ended up saying "we're about $380 per metre, more if we find concrete or any hassles". ~$6k for a 15m picket fence?? Unfortunately, it is a seller's market at the moment. If you can put it off for a year or two, it might be worthwhile in the hope that prices will stabilise. Just be careful with building stability during construction, that is when the structure may be weakened, refer to your engineering drawings for stability methodology. 1 7451 Can anyone recommend a good/affordable retaining wall and fence builder that I can get a quote from located in Sydney? 8 47440 Last year I had a gas leak at my house. 3 days later, I have about 1 sqm of my exposed aggregate paving broken up. I am not sure how to go about getting it repaired… 0 10738 |
