Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Apr 18, 2022 12:56 pm Hi, I have been in the process of planning an extension for a long time to provide my family with some much-needed space (3 kids are currently in a 3x1). Perhaps a little unorthodox however I have house plans and planning approval for our extension and am a the stage of looking for a builder. What I am worried about is the current state of the Perth building market. The combo of building grants (was never eligible), covid delays and an increasing number of articles about builders going under has me a bit concerned. To counter that, my family needs the space, we have a set of plans we love and I have been wanting to extend for some time now. I'm not getting any younger. So is the situation for renovation/extension builders as dire as they seem? Would I be crazy to embark on a large (~200m2) extension and renovation now? Is there any light in the tunnel indicating things might ease off soon? Unless you want to sign a contract based on the bare minimum documentation and have you pants pulled down at the contract/build stage (humour) Sounds like you have nothing to check the build data and economic forecasts against? paule Is there any light in the tunnel indicating things might ease off soon? I have posted previously imo what the minimum requirements are now, in a nut shell own drawings, engineering data/proofs, access to key indicators and rates, etc, etc Hold back until builders are fair dinkum.
