My partner and I just bought a Californian bungalow in the Inner West, Sydney.
Our plan is to:
- Knockdown the rear of the house and build an open plan space with living space and kitchen (total extension area is 60m2)
- Add decked area to the rear of the house
- Add a small bathroom within the existing floorplan
My partner and I just had our first consultation with an architect who estimated the total cost to be ~$400k.
If my math is correct, this implies that the per metre cost of the extension is over $6.5k. We had assumed that it would be in the ballpark of $3-3.5k.
We are going to speak to other architects and builders soon. But does anybody have recent first-hand experience of what a ballpark square metre cost should be? This seems a bit crazy...
Cheers
