Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Oct 18, 2021 7:40 pm Hi, We have a 100 year old weatherboard house, with very old chalking (what I assume is lead) paint. Looking for a product that I could seal / bind the old paint on to avoid sanding and releasing lead dust everywhere. It's basically exposed raw wood boards with chalking red paint on what's left. It rubs off on your finger if you rub it...see pics I have looked at Zinsser Peel Stop clear sealer binder which specifically mentioned chalking paint....but in the application guide, it suggests surface prep still involves sanding loose material. I also spoke to Dulux who suggested their oil-based Precision sealer binder range, which also mentions chalky surfaces (ie plaster, brick / mortar) but not sure if this is right for my use case. I'm hoping to avoid the cost of professional removal, and just seal it in and paint over...but obviously don't want my new paint not adhering prperly....any advice appreciated! I'd be using a hose, a stiff brush ( probably not a wire brush though ) and some rough wet and dry sandpaper. Of course hosing it off will transfer the lead paint from the air to the ground but you'll have to work that one out as to the best course of action.
