Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 27, 2021 9:31 pm Looking at cost effective solutions for this problem. The house is 40 years old, has vaulted cathedral ceilings throughout and a metal Klip-Lok roof with a pitch of 5 degrees on the back and 15 degrees on the front. There's roofing blanket installed under the roof, which I think its 50mm thick, no batts. Because of the vaulted ceilings, there is no accessible cavity, I estimate the air gap below the roofing blanket to the ceiling is at most 300mm. Because Melbourne has been getting above average rain for the last 6 to 8 months, the rain noise on a metal roof situation is now horribly obvious. Maybe I am getting older and more sensitive, but in short, it is keeping me up at night and I have to bump up the TV volume by a lot when it pours. Here's a video of what is sounds like, and it wasn't even heavy rain that day. Here's a similar video taken when it isnt raining for reference The professionals, ie roofing companies, plumbers, etc have assured me that they can make the roof a lot quieter, but its going to be a outright roof replacement, Install brand new Klip-Lok, roofing blanket and stuff the cavity with R4 batts. What bothers me is whether after spending all that $$$, I might still find myself bumping up the volume on the TV when it pours, or reaching for the ear plugs, if I want to sleep. Anyone here able to tell me if they are currently living in a metal roofed house, with cathedral ceilings, thats got the roofing blanket and batts ... and they dont have to adjust their TV volumes when it pours ? Maybe share a video with me of what it sounds like when it rains ? Fine with me... just let 'em step in with some affordable (but good) gear... 12 5486 2 8359 Yes, get a builder, make sure he is experienced and a registered building practitioner 5 8964 |
