Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 07, 2021 7:50 pm Our 60s home upstairs has sloped ceilings almost throughout which are attatched to the rafters through ceiling battens. That is all the ceilings except the bathroom which is flat. I plan on extending the bathroom so I have pulled down the bathroom ceiling and wall, with the wall extending to the rafters. There was nothing special in the wall frame with the joists nailed directly in to the studs resting on a 'cross beam notched in to the studs. Apart from holding up the bathroom ceiling, the bathroom wall is essentially not load bearing as it's not holding up any of the roof structure. I want to rebuild our new bathroom wall with a flat roof and place in new ceiling joists with proper span size. I am wondering if there is any other structural considerations due to the wall technically being load bearing despite our modest bathroom size. The previous stud wall only had a beam notched into it support the ceiling joists. The rest of the wall looked like a standard non load bearing wall.
