Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Apr 17, 2021 9:23 pm Hello guys, I'm renovating my 1950's house currently, and during the removal of kitchen / closets in the room / wallpapers, some of the white set plaster (~2mm thick) came off with the fixtures. Problem is, now the whole layer of them are coming off very easily with fingers / scraper! and I can't stop myself from peeling off more and more. and some more. Eventually whole wall, whole room and whole house might be stripped and left with the grey float plaster. Question is, is it necessarily? The paint and plaster adjacent to these areas seem sound from outside, and only seem to be coming off because I'm lifting them from where damage has occurred. It seems like I'm making the problem worse. Is it possible to re-plaster the damaged area only (mix bag of plasters or joint compound?), feather into the existing remaining white-set, and hope it bonds strongly? Just scrape off any loose or flakey white set and then get it re plastered. You can skim it with top coat if you know what you are doing and then sand it back so it's nice and smooth. Paint with a dealer and you are good to paint it all. In Perth most construction is plastered brick so we do it all the time. All the best. Do I scrape off the whole wall if it keeps on coming off?
