I have a nice 35 sq meter of alfresco built in 2014. We have been using it a lot since then, however we install plastic blinds to enclose the area, it is quite cold at night especially during winter. We had a Jetmaster Gas log installed in the alfresco area. The floor is Merbau decking currently. I am wondering if I change all the plastic blinds to double glazed windows and close one of the side with rendering [the red line in the photo 1], will the alfresco warm enough to be used for night time ? Also does the cold air come up from the flooring decking, do we have to change the decking to a nice floor board and if we don't want to, is it still feasible ? Please see attached print shot of the detailed engineering plan. I was told in order to convert the alfresco properly, I need to redo the stumps and it cost me a lot of money and I just want to close the area with double glazed windows. I would like to hear what is your view on the cost of changing alfresco and does it need council approvals and building surveyor ? Thank you for your attention.
