Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 11, 2021 1:41 pm Hi All Just currently drawing up patio plans for the back of my house but I am stuck. There isn't much information on the specifications of how far beams can span etc so I was seeing if anyone on here could help me. The patio will be attached to the rafters of the house. It will be a flat roof skillion patio. Very basic but cheap. I just want to see if my spanning is correct or if it needs to be changed. Patio - 11m x 5m 90x90x2mm columns (4 @ 3.6m apart roughly) 100x50x2mm fascia (3 @ 3.6m to suit the beams, connecting using the patio tube brackets and tekscrews) 100x50x2mm rafters (4 @ 3.6m apart attached to column as above) 76x38x1.6mm purlins (6 @ 1.7 apart) I have looked at other plans from councils around the area but there are no specifications or anything saying "this is a requirement". Seems like patio companies just hold onto this information with a tight fist I have attached a very rough drawing below showing measurements. I could potentially drop it to 10.5m to then have 3.5m fascia and purlins. Any information is good information Thanks Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Patio install specfications/laws 2Feb 11, 2021 2:09 pm I suspect a 56m2 patio is going to have to at least get a Building Permit from just about any council in the country and they are going to require certified engineering drawings. You may even need a Development Approval So your best bet it to start engaging local companies who can meet your Council's requirements. Re: Patio install specfications/laws 3Feb 11, 2021 3:02 pm Patio tube is cheaper than timber and RHS tube, getting hold of their proprietary concealed brackets and connections will be the issue As mentioned they also require Engineering certification and details Tight fisted...no... they're are just out to make a buck Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Patio install specfications/laws 4Feb 11, 2021 6:37 pm StructuralBIMGuy Patio tube is cheaper than timber and RHS tube, getting hold of their proprietary concealed brackets and connections will be the issue As mentioned they also require Engineering certification and details Tight fisted...no... they're are just out to make a buck Cheers Chris I have done some better drawings and sent them to an online engineer who specialises in patios so hopefully I will get some information back on purlin & rafter spacing and spanning requirements. The brackets are available locally at most patio shops, I think you are referring to the specialised patio tubing like Stratco etc which have the cool groove and interlocking brackets etc I will just be using RHS patio tube (100x50x2 and 76x38x1.6) and SHS column tube (90x90x2). The brackets are sold even in Bunnings i believe I have attached the new drawings below to the best of my ability Thanks for your reply Ben Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Patio install specfications/laws 5Feb 12, 2021 11:48 am Thanks for the update Have you checked pricing online before you specify the construction/engineering? RHS 150 x 50 x2mm Galv $25lm CB $35/m + brackets Pine 140 x 35 $7/m Pine 190 x 45 $12/m LOL, those $ms sure add up quickly OT Light gauge 1.2mm rolled sections are cheap but the patio guys won't sell it to you Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16160 Firstly the ableflex that has been installed needs (manufactures specification) a sealant cap over the top, preventing water draining down between the slab and the… 3 7795 If your patio is going to be 35 sqm then that's going to need Council Approval. The fact that they previously approved your 25sqm patio will be irelevant 1 5511 |
