Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Dec 09, 2020 8:25 am Hi folks, we have just bought a older style weatherboard house to move in and call it home. I've got an initial assessment on the stumps and looks like more than 50% are on concrete already. I've a quote for changing the remaining timber stumps, however I was advised by the specialist that re-stumping might not drastically improve any of the levels that is currently in play. The house isn't in a bad condition and the levels are definitely acceptable. questions to the folks: - Should we leave the stumps as is and deal as they come - Re-stump as the first item - We want to do some reno, such as new kitchen, bathrooms and a one room extension (not immediately) so do the re-stumping as part of that? - We also want to remove the old carpets and just polish the floor boards for now, should that also be before or after re-stumping? thanks heaps folks. Re: Should we re-stump first before any reno? 2Dec 13, 2020 6:59 am If you are looking at the end game, look at what you want to do with the house reno-wise and whether you are going to remove walls or move some of them, then I'd I'd look at doing the rest of the stumps first. Then you can re-pack the old bearers and get the whole house spot on level especially seeing as you want to polish the floorboards. I'd also look at doing that after your renovations in those areas as you won't want to scratch them when you're working on the place.
