Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Dec 10, 2020 2:18 pm Hi all, We are renovating our house at the moment and are stuck with a few decision regarding the existing concrete slab. 1. We are putting in a new ensuite and have to jackhammer out part of the slab for floorwaste. It's pretty close to the edge of the slab (under 1m distance). Do you know roughly how much it would cost? We think it will be around $1000. Will it be cheaper to build up the floor and do a few trick to get the waste out? 2. There is a new column that requires footing support. We are unsure if there is an existing intermediate beam underneath in the slab. Is there anyway we could find out? If there is no footing, again we have to cut up the floor and put in 500sq pad (according to the structural engineer). We think it will be around $2000 extra. Are we way off on both instances? THanks heaps, Try drilling through the exact spot and check the concrete depth, though you will probably require a pad footing and slab At a guess .5x.5x.3 (Pad) + 3+3+.1 (Slab) = 1m3 concrete for such a small amount I would batch the concrete in a mixer.. buy the dry concrete mix bulk.
