Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Dec 02, 2020 12:28 pm We're looking to renovate our kitchen. The ceilings throughout are standard height and there's cornices throughout. We will be knocking down the whole kitchen including the built in pantry. Is it common to leave the cornices and have a small gap on top of all the wall cabinets and the pantry? Or should we remove the cornices in the kitchen and build the cabinets/pantry to the ceiling? Will this look weird as there's cornices in the rest of the house? Pictures for reference - both current and roughly what we want to do. Thanks in advance Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Cornices in kitchen? 2Dec 04, 2020 1:51 pm Most of the renos we did in the past we had the top cupboards finish 20mm lower than the cornice level then installed a bulkhead on top and ran the cornice around that. It looks a lot more finished then leaving a dust collecting gap on top of the cupboards or other methods. Like this Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6866 2 4770 that will depend on the kitchen bench depth. you'll have to specify it so it allows for both the tap and the sink 1 7569 |
