Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Aug 24, 2020 11:29 pm Evening All, We are in the early stages of putting some ideas together on how we renovate our home. The existing kids rooms are relative small and would like to extend the house to create 2 additional larger rooms. My preferred option is to demolish the garage and cut into the land to bring the garage level with the street and extend the house on top of new garage. The ground level at the current garage height is around 1.5m from street. The biggest challenge i see here is when the garage is demolished how would i shore the existing house before cutting into the land. From my little research the easiest would be Solider piles ? How far from the house would i need to be? With the excavation completed the walls built would need to be retaining walls so would I be better looking at an ICF wall or the conventional Double brick With Concrete Core? 2nd option is to build a 2nd story on top of the existing garage. which i not really to keen on as i don't think it would suit the house ? Each has its challenges but wanted to get anyones thoughts/advice before i starting looking into the relevant builders/Engineers.
