Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Sep 14, 2011 12:38 pm Hi All, I'm in the planning stages of doing an extension tour house. I want it to be as solar passive as possible (wihtout blowing the budget). I'm wondering if anybody has experience or opinions on reverse brick veneer in terms of effectiveness, cost, finding builders etc, Thanks, Rebecca Re: Reverse brick veneer 2Sep 14, 2011 1:11 pm Our experience was the builders we spoke to wouldn't touch it or had NO idea what we were talking about... If you find someone who will and does, please MAKE THEM KNOWN FAR AND WIDE!! There are NOT enough people building green, and not enough builders offering green. Good luck! Re: Reverse brick veneer 3Sep 14, 2011 1:15 pm As with above, builders are stuck with their heads in the sand, if they have not done it before they are not prepared to do it. Get a draftsperson familiar with this concept to draw up your plans , then search for a builder prepared to build it for you. I love reverse brick veneer, the principals are very sound, and with the cost of power going up all the time these houses will be very economical. Make sure that all your living areas are facing North, sleeping areas South, limited windows East, and little or NO windows west. Proper eave placement on the north side and use decidous trees for shading North in summer. can’t tell from the photo, a tie down rod will be 12mm, is it a steel beam? he should be able to work it out 1 5573 5 11158 Brass fly wire, you will need to cut it, shape it and jam it into brick slots 1 8039 |
