Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Oct 20, 2011 12:32 pm I know very little about renovating but I am very keen to renovate my home. I have been looking around at multiple renovation companies in Melbourne and getting quotes. So far, The Extension Factory (the actual Extension Factory company located in Mulgrave, I noticed some other companies who seem to use the same name but are not the same company) is going to be my choice. I have had a couple of people recommend them to me in the past including a friend of mine. I was quite impressed with what I have seen so far. I want to make sure I am going with a good renovation company, so would like to get some more opinions about them. Thanks. Re: New to renovating 2Oct 20, 2011 2:08 pm Not to get too far off topic too early but have you thought about a knock down rebuild? We got a few rough quotes and then a solid one from an extension company. It was cheaper to knock down our place and build again than add on to existing. It will depend on how much more room you want to add on, but for us well worth it. Also, have you considered doing an owner built extension? You'll save money or get more for your money depending on how you go about it. What are you looking to get done? (e.g add a bedroom, en-suite and living or add 100m2 of building?) Re: New to renovating 3Oct 21, 2011 7:00 pm chrisandkate, you have mentioned some effective things for the renovation, mate. I totally agree with you. Another thing is always go for the obvious reason to renovate the house and always try to be cost effective, because after some days you feel bored about the renovation and try to change that so, if you slash some expense then it will help you for the future renovation. Re: New to renovating 4Oct 22, 2011 12:40 pm I agree with chrisandkate... If you're looking to do an extensive renovation, consider knock down and re-build. I work closely with Garth Chapman Queenslanders and they often do KD&R for clients who have had quotes for renovations and found it to be more expensive than starting from scratch. If you're just doing something minor though, consider running it yourself - just make sure you do lots of research! I used them for my house and a few of my other friends have chosen them as well and overall all of us are pleased. Re: New to renovating 6Nov 02, 2011 3:03 pm Can't comment on their workmanship but several years ago I got quotes from 4 companies for an extension. The extension company were the most expensive by a lot, hence the fact I dont know what their work is like Maybe have a look at a few private builders and see if you can get a better deal?? Good luck Normally you would strip it all out back to studs and joists. You usually can’t easily remove the tiles without damaging the asbestos sheet. Better to remove whole wall… 1 5112 Essentially any first home buyer can buy a block and then build a house exactly the same as you plan to do but somehow you will have to sell yours at a premium in order… 3 13754 Thankyou for your advice. We do have Caesar coming out and hopefully resolve the issue for us. 4 27933 |
