Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Aug 13, 2008 10:27 pm Hi guys
We have been quoted $1200 approx for an alarm system with 4 detectors to be put in by PD. Our sales guy actually suggested this can be done after handover for probably around the same place - even cheaper...is this true? I would have thought there would have to be some pre-wiring done or something? If this is true do you think we should leave it out and add it later, how much have most people paid for an alarm system? If we can leave it off we can probably add a few other extras which would be harder to add after handover so it's worth a thought.. Cheers bel My karma ran over your dogma Re: Alarm post handover 3Aug 14, 2008 10:06 am Thanks MikkyG - that is what i was thinking.
I did a quick google search and it seems most companies are charging the $1000 mark and giving alot more than 4 sensors, most are 8 sensors and include sensor lights and remote controls and such. They all state they are wireless though (probably due to the fact it is too hard to get wires into brick walls etc), does this cause any problem? Is it easy for 'potential thieves' to break/get past the wireless system? Thanks again for any input My karma ran over your dogma Re: Alarm post handover 4Aug 14, 2008 8:08 pm Bel, just make sure that they can get access for the sensors to be wired in, especially because you are building a two storey home....also if you are choosing to have the smoke detectors etc linked to the alarm it might need to be done during the build.
A single storey home is much easier....but then again it depends if the alarm you want is actually hard wired or not? Sorry probably not much help??? Maybe ring around and send them a copy of your plan and see if they have any recommendations? Re: Alarm post handover 5Aug 14, 2008 9:47 pm Thanks Nic
Well I did get a few ideas from alarm companies and all said it would probably be easier to get it during the build. So we will just stick with the $1292 for the alarm with PD My karma ran over your dogma Re: Alarm post handover 7Aug 15, 2008 11:19 am haywgl Thanks Nic Well I did get a few ideas from alarm companies and all said it would probably be easier to get it during the build. So we will just stick with the $1292 for the alarm with PD If pricing isn't too much different, in the long run it might be easier to get it done with through the builder. I'm using an external company and we've discovered after handover that the gyprockers have covered over most of the wiring. So now we get to have people banging holes in the walls (Fingers crossed they can find the cables okay). Re: Alarm post handover 8Aug 18, 2008 10:24 pm There are always wireless alarms which are meant to be just as good! It seems very clear to me that your contract states that a security account does NOT need to be established so the answer to the builder is NO.
